Buying A HDTV For Home by Kozen Huseyin

Buying a HDTV TV is a big transformation, especially if it is your first HDTV TV. Consider near real picture quality, pristine sound and much more. High definition television is truly transforming television entertainment, and it is within your grasp.
There is no doubt whether you want to buy a HDTV TV or not. Old style CRT televisions are slowly becoming as extinct as the dinosaur. The reason is simple; they were bulky and didn't offer great picture quality.
The changes in technology and how we use technology makes HDTV an essential. Yes, there is plasma, and it is an option, however LCD HDTV TV's have taken the world by storm.
The need to connect PC's to televisions and has consoles such as Sony PlayStation and Xbox, and Nintendo Wii's, have made the need for HDTV an important one.
Buying a HDTV TV for home is not that complicated and the good news is that the price is going to be roughly what you paid for the old set when it was new! This is great news.
When buying HDTV TVs, one of the first things you will see is the use of terms such as 1080p, 720p, 1080i, and 720i.
Without getting to technical, the main differences is the I and the P. The P stands for progressive, and is much superior than the I that stand for interlaced.
The number portion such as 1080 and 720 stands for the resolution. The higher the better! 1080p HDTV TV's are great at the minute, and are the latest in HDTV technology.
The biggest problem you will find with HDTV is actually getting to be able to use the full capability. For example play a VHS cassette (very unlikely!) on HDTV and the best quality you will get is what the cassette is showing.
To get the best out of HDTV, you will want to make sure the input is of high quality. For example satellite and cable companies are starting to air channels that come in full HD quality. This means that when you watch these movies or programs, you will find that they will show up in top quality.
Most satellite and cable channels however are not in high definition, which means that you may have great technology, but not able to see it. As the years go past more broadcasters are transmitting more stations in high definition, meaning that over time, you will find that most of what you watch could be on high definition.
Another point to remember is that the satellite and cable companies likely charge extra to view the HD channels. It is best to look this up before buying a particular set. This will enable you to make sure you know the full costs upfront.
Checking online is a great way buying HDTV TVs. The price point online is much better than retail stores, which is always a bonus. It can still be a great idea to visit a local store and get an idea of the different models and brands.

PS2 Vs. PS3: Which One Should You Go For and Why? by Roberto Sedycias

The craze for owning a video game console is on the rise. Even the HDTVs today are making provisions for adding a gaming console to the TV, having judged the pulse of the present generation. With everyone joining in the hype, can Sony be far behind? With the release of Playstation2 and Playstation3, Sony has jumped into the bandwagon of producing quality gaming consoles. But as is usual when there are a number of gaming consoles to choose from, everyone is busy comparing the performance of PS2 and PS3. But only time will tell which one will come out on top.
The PS2
Sony produced the sixth generation video game console and named it PS2. It has overtaken all the gaming consoles in sales. It also sports a huge library of games. Ps2 is backward compatible and so it can play all the games you could play on the previous versions. It also has the capability to play both CDs and DVDs. Being upgraded to play DVDs is one of the main factors in the increasing sales. If you want to go online, then you have to purchase a Network adapter for online multiplayer support. Most of the games developed for online PS2 support broadband internet access. The PS2 also has the capability to run Linux.
The PS3
The PS3 is larger than all the competitive products in the market. You have to go in for a HDMI cable to play Blu-ray movies in 1080p definition. You also have the option of buying optical digital audio cable to get the full effects of 7.1 channel audio. It is extremely easy to get started on the PS3. Barring some games, the PS3 is backward compatible with all the games which can be played on the previous versions. The best part of PS3 is that it can play Blu-ray movies with the same efficiency as stand-alone Blu-ray players. The remote is optional and does not come with the original package.
Advantages of PS2
* Select and Start buttons* Dual analog sticks to define the range of motion* 12 analog buttons* Mode button with digital, analog and steering modes* Dual Shock II-compatible feedback* Trigger firing buttons* Macro button for better programmability* 8-way precision directional pad* Comfortable manufactured angles and curves
Advantages of PS3
* Better processing capacity* Extensible over the Internet* Wireless networking allows web browsing and file sharing* Providing a Blu-ray player* Can play all titles of previous gaming consoles from Sony* 4 USB 2 ports* Bluetooth 2.0 support* Memory Stick, SD and CompactFlash slots* 60 GB hard disk
PS2 vs. PS3
There were a lot of things going in favor of PS2 during its launch. It was introduced at a time when no other competitive products were in view. In fact, the main reason for the high sales figures of PS2 was not its games but the provision of a DVD player which was comparatively much cheaper than the stand alone DVD players. As a direct result of this provision, the hardware costs went down. The manufacturers were forced to cut down the prices.
But when Sony announced the PS3, the same factors were not in favor of it. This time around Sony has competition from Nintendo and Microsoft. There has also been a high rise in the cost of PS3 which does not augur well for its sales. The Blu-ray feature has been beaten to the market with the introduction of HD-DVD, which offers better picture quality. You also have to invest a lot more on additional hardware when you purchase the PS3. This adds to the already huge cost. And lastly, PS3 does not include any particular new feature to talk about. Whereas, the PS3 was a significantly better product than its predecessors.
So the PS3 seems to be losing out on the PS2. It is time Sony took notice and tried to make amends. Otherwise the PS2 will remain in the driver`s seat at least for the time being.

Is Satellite TV the Next Boom For Gen-X Television Viewer! by Michael K William

Most of the popular Dish TV Network offer digital video recording equipment and services. The popularity of digital dish TV leaves them the current leader among the people living in United States with over ten million subscribers in comparison to cable TV. A dish TV network gives you free satellite equipment and they also provide a free installation in your homes. With this, you also get a DVR receiver and a HDTV receiver at no extra charge.

What is digital video recording?

A digital video recording (DVR) or a personal video recorder is a device that records video in digital format to a dish drive or other memory medium within a device. This can be used for stand-alone set-top boxes, portable media players and software for personal computers that enables video capture and playback from disk. It is basically nothing but a computer hard drive which is encased in a box and looks like any other electronic components that are stacked in your entertainment centre.

The memory device is connected to other components of your entertainment system with the help of jacks that are located at the back of the DVR. These are typically the normal RCA jacks that are used to make connections with satellite TV receiver, VCR or DVD player. Some of the modern satellite TV receivers have built-in DVR. It can also be used in conjunction with high definition broadcasts.

Having a digital video recorder (DVR) allows you to record TV programs without using videotape. The information is digitally recorded in the hard drive of the DVR unit. It is like a DVD player that does not require the use of DVD’s plus most DVD system have lot of added functions.

Features of digital video recorder:

• You can record one show while watching a different program.
• Helps you to pause, rewind and then play your favorite TV shows.
• You will never miss any of your favorite TV shows.
• You can skip through reruns or TV commercials.
• It provides you with an interactive on screen programming guide.
• It helps you to schedule recording up to 14 days in advance.
• You can use on- screen caller ID function to see who is calling.

Technical aspects of DVR functioning:

Recording digital satellite TV signals on a DVR is much more complicated process than recording broadcast signals or analog signals. This process is complicated because MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 streams that are used need to be encrypted so that people cannot view the satellite programming without having a subscription.

Some of the DVR are much technically advanced that they even allow you to have an on–screen caller ID function. When you set up your services with satellite TV provider you need to be hooked up to DVR receiver over the phone. This facility uses a phone in order to communicate with your system so that, you can get pay per view. The on-screen caller ID function allows you to see who is calling in your house right on your television screen.
